2027: Ex-DSS DG Daura declares intention to contest Katsina gov’ship
Former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Alhaji Lawal Daura, has declared his intention to contest the Katsina State governorship election in 2027, citing worsening insecurity and what he described as the poor performance of the current administration.
Daura made this known in an interview with DCL Hausa, where he said he had concluded consultations on his political ambition and would soon announce the political party on which he intends to run.
The former intelligence chief said persistent security challenges in Katsina, coupled with pressure from stakeholders, compelled him to step into active partisan politics, despite having previously operated largely behind the scenes.
“I was invited to come forward and contribute to addressing the deteriorating security situation in the state by contesting for governorship,” Daura said. “Initially, I said I would think about it, but later I realised I could not say no, considering the circumstances under which I was approached.”
“Honestly, if there was somebody better than me, I would have said we should go to such a person,” he said.
Daura disclosed that consultations on the political platform for his bid had been completed, assuring that the party would be made public in due course.
“For the current administration, we can say thank you for your efforts, but you should take a break because you can’t continue,” he said.
His declaration adds another dimension to the emerging political calculations in Katsina State ahead of the 2027 general election, particularly as insecurity continues to dominate public discourse and shape voter expectations.
