Striking FCT workers resume after truce with Wike
Full activities have been restored following the official suspension of industrial action by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) workers.
The move comes after a breakthrough agreement was reached between the FCT Administration and the organised labour.
The resolution followed an overnight conciliatory meeting with the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike.
The session, convened at the instance of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the FCT, Senator Mohammed Bomoi, began at 11.45pm on Monday and concluded at 3.51am on Tuesday.
Organised labour, represented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), described the discussions as “extensive and frank,” adding that this led to an amicable resolution of all grievances raised by members of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC).
Following the agreement, all JUAC members and affiliates of the NLC and TUC working in the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory (MFCT) were directed to resume work immediately.
Minister Wike assured workers of mutual respect and continued engagement, emphasising that no employee would face victimisation for participating in the strike.
Both parties also agreed that all pending cases at the National Industrial Court (NIC) relating to the dispute would be withdrawn.
The suspension of the strike brings an end to several days of halted activities, ensuring the resumption of critical public services and the continuation of ongoing government projects.
When our reporters visited the FCTA and FCDA offices, workers were seen going about their routine activities.
Schools in area councils were also opened, but students were not in attendance.
A teacher of the Pilot Science Primary School, Bwari, said pupils did not turn up because the announcement suspending the strike came late.
He assured that many of the school children will resume today.
