
Cross River embarks on sensitisation of new Tax Law
…reduce the burden of Nigerians – Okon
Edwin Okon, the executive Chairman of Cross River Internal Revenue Service (IRS), has disclosed that the newly signed Tax Reform Bill by President Bola Tinubu is aimed at reducing the burden of the majority of Nigerians.
Okon said the Tax Reform is also targeting the poor and vulnerable in society, creating efficiency while modernising tax rules for the digital age
Edwin Okon disclosed this in Calabar at Event 45 on Tuesday, during a one-day Sensitisation program for the Southern Senatorial District of the new Tax Reform Bill.

According to him similar campaign for the new Tax Reform Bill has been carried out in the Northern and Central Southern Senatorial District of Cross River.
Also Speaking the Head of IRS Patience Egwu on Understanding the Nigerian Tax Law said the new Tax Bill has harmonized into 9 the various taxes carried out between the Federal, State and Local Governments.
She said that the new Tax regime has reduced multiplicity of taxation by the state, Local and Federal Government
In their separate Goodwill messages, the Mayor of Calabar Municipal Council, James Anam and the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Cyril Omini, said the old tax system has not been fair to all people, especially for small business
