Tinubu committed to ending insecurity — SGF
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to end insecurity across Nigeria as part of effort to strengthen national stability and development.
The president made this known on Saturday at the Tiv Cultural Day celebration held in Gboko, Benue State, where he was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
Akume, in a keynote address at the gathering, noted that the fight against insecurity remained a core priority of the Tinubu administration under the Renewed Hope agenda.
He said that intensified military operations against insurgents and terrorists were already yielding improved security outcomes in parts of the country.
He explained that the administration was combining security interventions with economic reforms, infrastructural development, food security initiatives, poverty alleviation and job creation to address the root causes of insecurity.
While commending the Tiv people for their rich cultural heritage and contributions to Nigeria’s unity, the president acknowledged the role of traditional institutions and communal values in promoting peaceful coexistence.
He also highlighted ongoing national projects, including the construction of major bridges and dams, as well as the establishment of the North Central Development Commission, which he said would accelerate development and stability in the zone.
He praised the Tiv nation for its sacrifices towards preserving Nigeria’s unity, particularly during the Nigerian Civil War, and offered goodwill messages to the Tor Tiv, the Tiv Area Traditional Council and the entire Tiv Nation.
The event featured the conferment of honourary chieftaincy titles on 18 individuals approved by the Tiv Area Traditional Council, while eight others are to be honoured at a later date.
