2027: Atiku alleges plot to undermine, sabotage ADC
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged plans to use the judiciary to undermine and sabotage the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The presidential hopeful and chieftain of the ADC urged opposition politicians to remain vigilant and resist any attempt to weaken the party.
Atiku made the disclosure on Thursday night during a visit to the home of former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
Earlier on Thursday, the spokesman of the former Federal Capital Territory minister, Muyiwa Adekeye, in a post on X, claimed that security operatives approached El-Rufai shortly after he disembarked from a flight from Cairo, Egypt.
He, however, said El-Rufai declined to accompany them and demanded a formal invitation.
Meanwhile, Atiku, in a video posted on his Facebook page after the visit, said he was in possession of credible information of a plot by unnamed persons to use the judiciary to undermine the ADC.
Atiku said, “Just as they undermined and sabotaged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), there are also efforts and plans to undermine the ADC by using the judiciary again.
“We must be alert, and we must stand up against that plan to undermine the opposition. This is a very credible information. So we should all be at alert and make sure that the judiciary is not used to undermine the ADC.
“Just as it has been used to undermine, to sabotage the PDP. We must all unite and stand up to all these anti-democratic forces.”
Atiku also condemned what he described as an embarrassment to El-Rufai, opposition politicians and Nigerians.
“By embarrassing you, they are embarrassing the entire political class. Especially the ADC. We condemn it in totality and we will stand by you,” Atiku said.
Responding, El-Rufai alleged that an anti-corruption agency was being used to embarrass him.
He also thanked the former vice president for the visit and his concern.
El-Rufai, a former member of the All Progressives Congress, has in recent times been a vocal critic of the present administration.
He is a member of the coalition working with other opposition leaders to challenge the APC in 2027.
