
Bolaji clinches para-badminton gold in Egypt
Africa’s top para badminton player, Eniola Bolaji, won the 2026 Egypt International Championship on Sunday at the New Capital Indoor Hall in Cairo.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Paralympic bronze medallist defeated Turkey’s world number seven, Halime Yildiz, 2–0 (21–10, 21–4).
The 2026 Egypt International Championship began on Jan. 13 and ended on Jan. 18 in Cairo. The Egypt Para Badminton International 2026 featured athletes from 28 countries across the globe.
Bolaji opened her campaign with a 2–0 (21–9, 21–10) victory over Yildiz before defeating India’s Tulika Jadgave 2–0 (21–10, 21–7).
She advanced by beating India’s Manasi Girishchandra Joshi 2–0 (21–11, 21–13) to reach the semi-finals.
In the semi-final, Bolaji overpowered India’s Shivam Yadav Neeraj 2–0 (21–10, 21–11) to book her place in the final.
Reacting, Badminton Federation of Nigeria President, Francis Orbih, praised Bolaji’s consistency and global impact.
Orbih said the African champion has shown Nigeria can compete and dominate internationally through her impressive performances.
“I am excited that Eniola Bolaji competed at the Egypt Para Badminton International and won gold once again. “and in 2025, she began her journey to greatness in North Africa, winning all available gold medals except one.
“I strongly believe Bolaji will have an exciting year and continue to bring pride to Nigeria and the federation,” Orbih said. (NAN)
