12 killed in Kogi road crash
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed 12 persons dead and two injured in an accident along Ejule-Enugu highway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Briefing newsmen on Saturday in Lokoja, Kogi State, the FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Tenimu Etuku, said the incident happened around 11:30pm on Friday when an 18-seater Toyota bus lost control due to over speeding.
Describing the incident as “fatal and very unfortunate,” the FRSC boss added that the 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Romchi Mass Transit was travelling from Abuja to the eastern part of the country when the driver lost control and rammed into a parked faulty articulated vehicle.
He said the injured persons were rushed to Mercy of Jesus Hospital, Ejule for medical attention, while the dead were deposited in the morgue.
Etuku said, “At this yuletide, motorists must be careful and adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to avoid such accidents and wastage of precious lives.
“I believe this is one way to help the FRSC and the federal government reduce the alarming rate of road traffic crashes and fatalities in the country.
“I hereby urge drivers to exercise patience and maintain safe driving practices, especially during long-distance journeys in this yuletide.”
