Tinubu Honours Lawal with National Excellence Award on Governance, Security Reforms
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) 2025 in Governance and Security Reform on Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal.
The award was presented on behalf of the president by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at the NEAPS 2025 award dinner held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the event was organised by The Best Strategic Media in partnership with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
According to the statement, the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service, established in 2022, is aimed at recognising individuals who have made sustained and positive contributions to national development.
It said Governor Lawal was honoured for the reforms introduced by his administration across critical sectors in Zamfara State, particularly in governance, public service delivery and security.
The statement noted that the Lawal administration had restored order in the state civil service by prioritising workers’ welfare and ensuring that retirees received their long-overdue entitlements.
While presenting the award, organisers highlighted the governor’s achievement in settling over N15 billion in gratuities, clearing a 13-year backlog owed to retired civil servants within two years in office.
Other factors cited for the award included the increase in the state’s minimum wage from N7,000 to N70,000, the introduction of a 13th-month salary for workers and the provision of additional incentives.
NEAPS also listed the governor’s urban renewal initiatives, the reconstruction, renovation and equipping of more than 500 public schools, as well as significant improvements in the health sector, including the renovation and equipping of all general hospitals in the state.
In the area of security, the organisers commended Governor Lawal for establishing the Community Protection Guards, providing operational vehicles and equipment to security agencies, fuelling troops’ vehicles and offering regular logistical support to security forces.
The statement added that the award would serve as a morale booster for the governor.
“This national recognition will further motivate the governor to sustain his commitment to rescuing and rebuilding Zamfara State,” Idris said.
