NURTW endorses Tinubu, Kebbi gov ahead 2027 elections

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has said his administration has delivered about 90 per cent of the campaign promises made to the people during the 2023 general elections.

Idris made the assertion on Monday in Birnin Kebbi at the Tinubu/Kaura endorsement programme organised by members of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers.

The governor expressed appreciation to the union for its support over the years, describing the relationship between NURTW and organised labour as cordial and longstanding.

“I am proud of the NURTW for the support it has given me over the years, even before I became governor,” Idris said. “When I served as President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), we enjoyed strong cooperation with NURTW on issues affecting our members and national interests.”

He said his administration had embarked on aggressive infrastructural development aimed at repositioning Birnin Kebbi to compete favourably with other state capitals across the country.

“As a government, we have fulfilled about 90 per cent of our campaign promises. We recruited teachers, distributed farm inputs to farmers and provided grains to cushion the effects of the current economic challenges,” he said.

The governor disclosed that the state government was set to distribute power tillers, herbicides and fertilisers to more than 50,000 beneficiaries at no cost, as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity.

He added that major road projects linking towns and markets were ongoing in Malando-Warra, Ngaski, Bagudo and Arewa Local Government Areas.

“We do not deceive our people. Any project we claim to have executed can be verified on the ground,” Idris said. “We met schools and critical infrastructure in deplorable conditions, and we have taken decisive steps to address them. Regardless of opposition, we will remain focused on development.”

Idris thanked the leadership and members of NURTW for their continued support for his administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Earlier, the National President of NURTW, Alhaji Najeem Usman-Yasin, commended the governor for what he described as bold and impactful interventions across critical sectors.

He praised the rescue and rehabilitation of students of the Comprehensive Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, as well as the construction of the Central Motor Park in Birnin Kebbi.

“The Central Motor Park has no rival, not only in the North-West but in the entire country,” Usman-Yasin said.

Expressing satisfaction with the governor’s performance, he pledged the union’s continued support for Governor Idris and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We will continue to support you and President Bola Tinubu by the grace of God,” he added.

Usman-Yasin also lauded Tinubu for initiating super highway projects across the country, noting that the projects would significantly boost economic activities when completed.

At the event, the newly elected Chairman of NURTW in Kebbi State, Alhaji Garba Dan-Malam, was sworn in by the national president.

The union also presented awards of excellence to Idris and Tinubu in recognition of their achievements in infrastructural development, particularly road construction, in Kebbi State and across the country.
