PSC opens portal for recruitment of 50,000 police constables
The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has opened the recruitment portal for the enlistment of 50,000 police constables.
This, followed President Bola Tinubu’s directive aimed at strengthening internal security and expanding the nation’s policing capacity.
The exercise, announced on Thursday in Abuja, is part of Tinubu’s mandate to boost community policing and address Nigeria’s growing security demands through a significant increase in police manpower.

According to the Commission, the online application portal will be open from Monday, December 15, 2025, and will close on Sunday, January 25, 2026, giving eligible Nigerians nationwide access to submit their applications through the dedicated platform: www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng.
PSC said the recruitment will be conducted jointly with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure a transparent, credible and merit-driven process. It emphasised that applications are entirely free, cautioning the public to beware of fraudsters exploiting the exercise to extort unsuspecting applicants.
“The recruitment accommodates applicants into both the General Duty and Specialist cadres.
“For the General Duty category, candidates must possess a minimum of five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in WASSCE, NECO, GCE or their equivalent, obtained in not more than two sittings.
“Specialists are required to have at least four credits, including English and Mathematics, alongside a minimum of three years’ experience and relevant Trade Tests in the fields they are applying for.
“All applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth. The age requirement is 18 to 25 years for General Duty applicants and 18 to 28 years for Specialist applicants. Candidates must also be medically, physically and psychologically fit. Height requirements apply only to General Duty candidates, 1.67m for males and 1.64m for females”, the Commission noted.
The PSC also noted that additional guidelines and role-specific requirements will be published on the recruitment portal once it becomes fully active on December 15.
Torty Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, in a statement said the Commission and the Nigeria Police Force have aligned to ensure the process remains seamless and devoid of manipulation.
The statement reiterated the Commission’s stance against extortion, stressing that no payment is required at any stage of the recruitment.
It added that detailed instructions, requirements and updates will be provided on the official websites and social media platforms of both the PSC and the NPF.
The Commission encouraged eligible and patriotic Nigerians to take advantage of this opportunity to contribute to national security and policing reforms by joining the Nigeria Police Force.
