FCT polls: Bwari PDP chairmanship candidate promises grassroots development
Mr. Julius Adamu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, has assured residents of his commitment to inclusive, grassroots development.
Adamu, who gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Bwari, also promised to prioritize infrastructure improvements if voted into office.
NAN reports that the candidate, a former Speaker of the legislative arm of the council, is contesting alongside his vice-chairmanship candidate, Mr. Danjuma Usman.
Adamu stated that, if elected, his administration would consolidate the existing development plans of the incumbent chairman, Mr. John Gabaya, and build upon those structures.
“Governance is a process that requires continuous improvement, especially building upon what the previous administration has done or left behind,” Adamu said. “Our plan is to improve on what this administration has put on the ground, particularly regarding quality education, accessible healthcare, youth empowerment, and rural development.”
The chairmanship candidate added that his administration would also focus on empowering market women and petty traders with incentives to grow their businesses, increase their capital, and, by extension, improve their livelihoods.
Regarding accountability and transparency, Adamu promised inclusive governance involving dialogue with all stakeholders and community members to foster growth.
He said: “When I was the Speaker during Gabaya’s first tenure as chairman, we held town hall meetings where we dialogued with residents and community members, irrespective of their political or religious affiliations.
“This provided a platform to inform the people of the administration’s achievements and future plans, while also allowing residents to voice their specific needs to the government. That is the structure I intend to emulate once elected, to ensure accountability and transparency in governance.”
