FG approves recruitment of 350 staff as UNILAG holds 56th convocation
The Federal Government has approved the recruitment of 350 academic and non-teaching staff for the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to address manpower shortages caused largely by the ongoing “japa” syndrome.
The vice chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, disclosed this while addressing journalists at a press conference ahead of the university’s 56th convocation ceremony.
She said the exit of many staff members in recent years had placed significant strain on the institution’s workforce. Professor Ogunsola revealed that a total of 16,506 students will graduate during the convocation, comprising 10,584 first-degree and 5,922 postgraduate degree recipients.
Of the undergraduate graduates, 709 earned First Class honours, 4,543 obtained Second Class Upper Division, 3,910 graduated with Second Class Lower Division, 69 had Pass degrees, while 330 earned unclassified degrees.
She announced Chukwuzubelu Umeozo of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Department of Business Administration, as the overall best graduating student with a perfect CGPA of 5.0.
She said the week-long convocation activities would begin on Friday, January 16, with a Jumat service at the University Central Mosque.
