EPL: Arsenal slip in title race after 2-1 loss to Aston Villa

Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions took a hit on Saturday after a late strike condemned them to a 2-1 defeat against a determined Aston Villa side at Villa Park.

Matty Cash put the hosts ahead in the 36th minute, finishing off a well-worked move to give Unai Emery’s men control of the first half.

Arsenal returned from the break with renewed urgency and were rewarded when Leandro Trossard restored parity in the 52nd minute, pouncing inside the box to fire home the equaliser.

Just as the match appeared to be heading for a draw, substitute Emiliano Buendía produced a dramatic stoppage-time winner, sending the home crowd into wild celebration and securing all three points for Villa.

The result leaves Arsenal still top of the table on 33 points but increases the pressure at the summit.
