Maduro ‘captured’ as US launches airstrikes in Venezuela
The United States of America has launched airstrikes against Venezuela, capturing the country’s President Nicolas Maduro and and his wife.
The US President, Donald Trump, announced this in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Saturday.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country.” he wrote.
According to Trump, the military action was carried out in conjunction with US Law Enforcement.
“This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
President Maduro had earlier described the US action as “military aggression” and declared a nationwide state of emergency.
The United States has for years alleged that Nicolás Maduro heads an international drug trafficking network, an accusation he has consistently denied.
