Gov. Lawal commissions five projects in Tsafe, says development must meet people’s needs
Governor Dauda Lawal has reiterated that development must be visible, functional and responsive to the needs of the people of Zamfara State.
The governor made the assertion on Friday while commissioning five strategic projects in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
A statement by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the projects include a reconstructed modern motor park, a reconstructed market, a rehabilitated school, a renovated and fully equipped general hospital, as well as a renovated emir’s palace.
According to the statement, the projects are central to community life, leadership, education, healthcare, commerce and mobility, and are expected to foster a sense of pride and ownership among residents.
Speaking at the event, Governor Lawal said the projects form part of his administration’s efforts to strengthen public institutions, revive critical infrastructure and ensure that governance has a direct impact on the lives of the people.
He said the reconstructed Tsafe Emir’s Palace symbolises continuity, authority and cultural identity, noting that traditional institutions remain vital to grassroots governance as anchors of peace, custodians of values and partners in community development.
The governor said the renovation of the palace reflects respect for tradition and acknowledges the role of traditional rulers in maintaining harmony, resolving conflicts and promoting unity, adding that his administration would continue to work closely with traditional institutions.
On education, Lawal said the rehabilitation of the College of Health Technology, Tsafe, was aimed at improving the training environment for health professionals and strengthening human capital development in the state.
He added that the rehabilitation and re-equipping of the General Hospital, Tsafe, would improve service delivery, patient experience and working conditions for health personnel, stressing that access to quality healthcare remains a priority of his administration.
The governor also described the reconstructed Tsafe Market and Motor Park as critical to local economic growth, employment and stability, noting that the facilities support farmers, traders, artisans, transport operators and small businesses.
He said improving the facilities would enhance productivity, safety and order, while boosting revenue generation and ensuring dignity for users.
Lawal urged traditional rulers, community members, traders, transport operators, health workers and other stakeholders to take collective responsibility for protecting and maintaining the facilities.
According to him, public infrastructure thrives where there is a shared sense of ownership and civic responsibility, adding that proper use and maintenance would ensure the facilities serve the people for years to come.
