Suspected motorcycle thieves strangle man in FCT community
Some suspected motorcycle thieves have reportedly strangled a man, identified as Bawa Iliya, to death and escaped with his motorcycle at Gbamfa village in Kwaku ward of Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
A resident of Ggamfa community, Moses Ayuba, said the incident happened on Sunday around 5:23 pm, when Mr Iliya was returning from Kwaku village market.
He said the deceased stopped at a stream to wash part of his body due to dust, when the suspects suddenly emerged from a nearby bush and attacked him.
He said the suspects dragged the deceased into the bush and used a bike throttle cable, and strangled him until the deceased gave up before they escaped with his bike.
According to him, some women who were returning from Kwaku market on foot to the village discovered the man’s corpse and quickly raised an alarm.
“It was some women who were returning back to Gbamfa village who went to sell plantain at Kwaku market and saw the man’s corpse by the roadside, rushed to the village to report the incident,” he said.
He said it was in the process that some vigilante members quickly mobilised to the scene where the deceased corpse was found and later taken to the village.
A member of the vigilante, Enoch Musa, confirmed the incident to our reporter on Tuesday, over the telephone, saying the deceased was strangled and his bike was taken away by hoodlums.
Our reporter learnt that the deceased bought the new Bajaj motorcycle in Gwagwalada, three days before he was attacked by the suspected hoodlums.
He said the vigilante immediately rushed to inform the police in Rubochi division, where one of the officers visited the scene and took photos of the corpse before it was buried on Monday.
A police source who preferred anonymity confirmed the incident, saying the police are investigating the incident.
