
Tinubu reappoints Owoeye as Lagos neuro-psychiatric hospital MD

President Bola Tinubu has re-appointed Dr. Olugbenga Owoeye as the substantive Medical Director of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Yaba, for another four-year term.
According to a statement by the Director of Administration of the hospital, Dr. Adeyinka Antwi, the appointment takes effect from June 1, 2025.
Owoeye’s first four-year term ended on May 31, 2025, and he served in an acting capacity while awaiting approval for renewal from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
Owoeye, who is currently the most senior consultant in the hospital with over two decades of service, graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as a medical doctor in 1994.
He qualified as a psychiatrist in 2003 and obtained his Master’s and PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Lagos in 2005 and 2009, respectively.
The Yaba hospital medical director is a member of several professional associations, including the Nigerian Medical Association, Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Psychological Association, Nigerian Institute of Management and the International Certified Addiction Professional (ICAP I & II).
Owoeye has chaired several committees aimed at ensuring efficient mental health management.
He has won many grants and has over 30 publications and a book to his credit.
He has also attended several trainings and conferences both locally and internationally.
