
Troops Foil Kidnapping, Rescue Victims in Taraba
Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have foiled a kidnapping and robbery incident along the Wukari-Ikyior Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, rescuing two victims.
Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, said in Jalingo on Saturday that the troops acted on a distress call indicating that criminals had blocked the road and were attacking civilians.
He said the troops responded swiftly to the scene immediately after receiving the alert. On arrival, the suspects fled into the surrounding bush and abandoned their victims.
Mohammed identified the rescued victims as Mr Terso Kerso, 48, and Mr Udongu Terbo, 42, both from Ikyior community in Wukari LGA.
He said the victims, who were unconscious at the time of the rescue, were immediately evacuated to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari, for urgent medical attention.
According to him, troops have intensified patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent further criminal activities and reassure residents and road users of sustained security presence.
Commending the troops for their swift response and professionalism, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised their vigilance and commitment to duty, noting that their timely intervention prevented possible loss of lives.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s resolve to sustain proactive operations across its area of responsibility and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies in support of ongoing security efforts.
