Wike, Fubara move to end feud after meeting Tinubu
The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, yesterday said he has urged the Rivers State House of Assembly to “do the needful” by halting the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, following the fresh intervention by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting projects in Abuja on Tuesday, the Minister expressed optimism that the persistent political crisis in Rivers State is nearing a resolution after a Monday night meeting convened by the President.
“The Assembly, I have told them to do the needful to obey Mr. President, which I know they will not hesitate to do,” Wike said, adding that he “also believes that the governor will carry out his own part to make sure that this is the final time Rivers people will hear this kind of discord.”
The Minister added, “I believe that by the grace of God, this will be the last time the President will be bothered with this issue.”
Wike emphasized the weight of the President’s counsel, noting, “The President is the father of the nation, and when a father speaks, his children must listen and do the needful to ensure peace and progress.”
Wike maintained that stability is now the priority, stating, “The most important thing is for Rivers State to move forward, and we are grateful to Mr. President for his tireless commitment to ensuring that we reach this understanding.”
It will be recalled that the State Assembly, largely seen as loyal to Wike, recently initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor.
As part of a search for a political solution, President Tinubu summoned both Wike and Fubara to the Presidential Villa on Sunday to mediate the feud.
