Tinubu not “caged”, says Yari’s ally

Mr Aminu Shehu, an ally of Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has dismissed reports that the lawmaker claimed President Bola Tinubu is “caged.”

There were reports in sections of the media quoting the Senator representing Zamfara West as making the remarks while speaking at the One Nigeria Project Conference in Abuja. According to the reports, Yari allegedly said that real power and decision-making authority now reside outside Aso Rock.

Some online platforms quoted Yari as stating, “The presidency is being operated from outside the Villa. President Tinubu is effectively caged within the Presidential Villa while a small group of powerful individuals run the affairs of government.”

However, Shehu, in a statement on Wednesday, described the publication as a “deliberate attempt to mislead the public and stir unnecessary political tension.”

Shehu argued that the senator had, in fact, delivered remarks strongly praising Tinubu and calling for unity among Nigerians. The ally added that Yari highlighted the president’s dedication to restoring stability and driving development across the country.

Shehu added, “He (Yari) stated that President Tinubu has been working tirelessly, receiving detailed briefs from all key sectors of the nation, because he is determined to move Nigeria forward.

“According to Yari, the President is deeply engaged in the nation’s challenges and committed to finding solutions that benefit all citizens.”

He added that Yari went further to explain that many of the problems facing Nigeria were self-inflicted and require collective responsibility to overcome.

Shehu explained further that Yari also addressed the negative rhetoric often targeted at the President, noting that many of the criticisms come from individuals who should know better.

Yari was further quoted as stating, “The problem is the elite. You have people abusing Tinubu. You are abusing him because you know the problem more than the truth. Honesty, responsibility, and patriotism are needed to move the country forward.

“This is because we initiated a lot of havoc ourselves, but we need to come together, stressing that national cohesion is the only path to real progress.”

Shehu added that Yari also informed the gathering of his visit to the President before the event.

“He revealed that he personally informed President Tinubu about his attendance at the conference:

‘I was with the President in the night, and I told him that I would be here, and if he has time, he should watch what we are doing. And I think this organisation should be given the support.’

“Yari concluded that achieving ‘One Nigeria’ requires unity of purpose, cooperation, and a shared commitment to growth and development. His statements stand in sharp contrast to the false claims circulating online,” Shehu added.
