Tinubu arrives in Abu Dhabi for 2026 Sustainability Week

President Bola Tinubu arrived in Abu Dhabi on Sunday for the 2026 edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2026), Nigerian officials said.

Tinubu travelled to the United Arab Emirates capital from Europe, where he spent part of the end-of-year break and held talks with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron.

The annual summit, initiated by UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is scheduled to run from January 12 to 18 and focuses on global cooperation around sustainability.

Tinubu arrived at the presidential wing of Zayed International Airport at about 1:30 p.m. local time. He was received by UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar and other senior officials.

This year’s summit is themed “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go” and is expected to bring together world leaders, policymakers and industry experts to discuss pathways for sustainable development and socioeconomic growth.

In a statement, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said the visit underscored Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic ties with the UAE and positioned the country as an active participant in global sustainability discussions.
