Panic as explosion rocks Kwara community
Offa community in Kwara State was thrown into panic late Thursday night after a series of loud explosions shook parts of the town, damaging buildings and unsettling residents.
Eyewitnesses said the blasts, which occurred close to midnight, affected several residential houses and shops along Yidi and Adeleke areas, spreading fear to surrounding communities.
As of the time of filing this report, no casualties have been officially confirmed.
Some unexploded aerial “bombs” were later discovered, raising concerns among locals about a possible link to United States drone operations in Nigeria.
The US and the Nigerian government confirmed a drone strike on a suspected ISIS terrorist enclave in Sokoto State on Thursday, conducted in collaboration with Nigerian authorities.
Reacting to the incident, Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause of the explosions.
A local indigene and former Special Assistant on Security, Alhaji Tajudeen Alabi, attributed the blasts to the U.S. drone strike.
He said, “It was a misdirected drone attack from the U.S. and hit about five areas in Offa around past 9:00 pm last night.
“The situation has caused serious panic in the town, prompting visits by police and other security agencies to the scene.”
Military personnel and other security agencies have been deployed to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of residents.
