Wike defends Abuja infrastructure, says projects impact lives
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the various projects being executed across Abuja are key to improving the lives of residents, noting that infrastructure directly impacts the general well-being of the people.
The Minister dismissed claims that “nothing is happening” in Abuja, insisting that significant progress has been made in the nation’s capital.
Speaking at a medial chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Wike stressed that development is a gradual process and cannot be achieved all at once.
He maintained that administrations should be assessed based on the progress made within their specific tenure.
He added that critics often overlook steady improvements, particularly in school renovations, road construction, and healthcare infrastructure across the FCT.
He identified good road networks, improved healthcare facilities, security, agriculture, and education as vital indicators of development.
Wike revealed that contracts for the renovation and upgrade of over 200 schools in Abuja have been awarded as part of efforts to improve the learning environment.
“People conclude that nothing is going on in Abuja. I’ve seen people take things step by step; go and see the contracts that have been awarded in terms of improvement to the schools. More than 200 schools have been slated for renovation,” Wike said.
The Minister argued that quality education cannot be achieved by focusing on teachers alone without addressing the state of school infrastructure.
While acknowledging that teachers and health professionals play essential roles, he noted that the government must first provide the basic facilities that allow these professionals to function effectively.
Regarding the economy, Wike pointed out that following the removal of the fuel subsidy, state governors now have access to increased revenue. He urged citizens to hold their respective governors accountable for how those funds are utilized.
Nigerians can now invest ₦2.5 million on premium domains and profit about ₦17-₦25 million. All earnings paid in US Dollars. Rather than wonder, click here to find out how it works.
