First Lady seeks end to HIV/AIDS by 2030
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and his commitment to achieving an HIV-free Nigeria by 2030.
Delivering the keynote address at the 2025 World AIDS Day commemoration at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday, Senator Tinubu said the occasion provides an opportunity for reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to the shared goal of ending HIV/AIDS.
She acknowledged Nigeria’s progress in prevention, treatment, and care, but emphasized that stakeholders must not relent until everyone in need has access to life-saving services. She highlighted the importance of sustained advocacy, innovation, and confronting stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS.
Senator Tinubu noted that Nigeria’s HIV response remains largely donor-funded and called for sustainable measures as global funding patterns shift. She revealed that the administration has approved $200 million to support HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria programmes, and that NACA is engaging state governments to ensure long-term ownership of the national response.
“To parents, guardians, and teachers, HIV/AIDS should be openly discussed. To young people, I encourage you to take responsibility for your health, get tested, and know your status,” she said.
The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, disclosed that government provides annual liver and kidney tests for people living with HIV/AIDS and has lowered the consent age for voluntary testing from 18 to 14 to improve adolescent access, though stigma remains a concern.
Nigerians can now invest ₦2.5 million on premium domains and profit about ₦17-₦25 million. All earnings paid in US Dollars. Rather than wonder, click here to find out how it works.
