‘Only N21bn paid’, Contractors refute FG’s claim
The All-Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) has disputed claim by the Ministry of Finance that N152 billion has been paid to its members, insisting that N21 billion has so far been received.
In a statement on Tuesday, the National Secretary of the association, Babatunde Seun O., said N21 billion was the only recent disbursement to its members, noting it was finalized on December 31, 2025.
Refuting the claim by the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, he disclosed that 938 companies submitted details amounting to approximately N53 billion, saying from December 2025 to date, its members only received N61 billion, covering 611 companies.
“We wish to inform the general public and set the record straight regarding the false and misleading information recently released by the Honourable Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, and promoted by a blogger known as Dee-One, who openly claimed he was instructed by an office to publish the falsehood.”
AICAN said that it is unfortunate that efforts are being made to disenfranchise the hopes of the common man by discouraging the submission of 2024 payment lists-despite earlier agreements and contrary to the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who instructed that all AICAN members should be paid.
It added, “The claim that the Honourable Minister has paid N152 Billion to AICAN members is completely false and misleading. Even if, for the sake of argument, such an amount had been paid (which it has not), would it be considered an achievement out of over N4 Trillion owed by the Federal Government to contractors nationwide? That amount would merely be a drop in the ocean.
“The last and only recent payment made to AICAN members was: N21 Billion, finalized on 31st December 2025 and paid on 21st January 2026. There has been no additional payment anywhere close to N152 Billion as falsely claimed. We strongly condemn the act of sponsoring bloggers to spread false information without facts and figures. The publication made by Dee-One on 23rd January 2026 does not reflect AICAN’s true financial records.”
