PTAD Disburses ₦55.9bn in Monthly Pensions, Outstanding Arrears to Retirees, Others

The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive, Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Tolulope Odunaiya,  yesterday disclosed that a total of ₦55.9 billion had been disbursed as monthly pensions and arrears to eligible pensioners and next-of-kins of deceased pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme (DBS) in December 2025.

Speaking over the weekend, Odunaiya, said the payment covered ₦13.41 billion as monthly pensions across all operations pension departments, including diaspora pensioners, while ₦42.50 billion was paid as pension arrears.

The arrears payment covered outstanding obligations arising from the ₦32,000 pension increment, as well as the 10.66 per cent and 12.95 per cent pension increments, in addition to other accrued pension arrears, gratuity, and death benefits owed to eligible beneficiaries.

Speaking on the payment milestone, the PTAD boss stressed that the payments reflected President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of senior citizens, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.

Olugbenga Ajayi, she further reaffirmed the directorate’s commitment to clearing the remaining one month arrears owed to PaPD and TEHD, while continuing to implement initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and overall well-being of DBS pensioners.

A breakdown of the arrears across the pension departments included Police Pension Department (PPD),  ₦5.88 million paid to five pensioners; ₦604.33 million paid to 8,606 pensioners in the Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD); ₦16.36 billion disbursed to 71,643 pensioners in the Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD), and payments to pensioners in the Defunct and Transferred Agencies Department (DTAD) totalling ₦15.06 billion to 24,995 pensioners.

Others are Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD) ₦7.80 billion to 25,718 pensioners; Tertiary Education and Health Department (TEHD ₦2.37 billion to 28,245 pensioners; gratuity and death benefits amounting to ₦289.10 million to eligible Next-of-Kin of deceased retirees.

The statement added that with these payments, arrears resulting from the ₦32,000 pension increment had been fully liquidated across all pension departments, except for one month each outstanding for pensioners in the PaPD and TEHD.
