BREAKING: Niger Community Raises Alarm Over Presence Of Suspected Bandits Few Days After Market Massacre
This comes a few days after gunmen attacked the community market, killing villagers and abducting many others.
Residents of Kasuwan Daji in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State have expressed alarm after sighting suspected bandits in the community, sparking fear of potential attack.
This comes a few days after gunmen attacked the community market, killing villagers and abducting many others.
While the Niger State Police Command put the casualty figure at 30, community leaders had disputed the figure and said between 42 and 60 people were killed during the attack.
The gunmen were said to have arrived on motorcycles, firing indiscriminately while traders and shoppers fled in panic.
They also set fire to market stalls and looted food items, leaving much of the market in ruins and dozens of victims lying at the scene.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, a villager said armed men with guns were sighted on Sunday evening around the community.
“Please, we just saw a large number of bandits passing again at that Kasuwan Daji, Borgu Local and Agwara Local Government. We are living in fear now; please, help us inform security agencies to be on alert. All of us are in a terrible shape now,” the source told SaharaReporters.
Another local source told SaharaReporters that the suspected bandits were sighted entering through Agwara.
“These movements have been ongoing since Sunday afternoon. People are afraid because they may be settling around forests close to our communities,” he said.
