LASTMA to close Adeniji Adele, CMS, Marina routes for Eyo procession

The Lagos State Government has issued a travel advisory announcing widespread traffic restrictions on Lagos Island ahead of the Eyo Festival scheduled for Saturday, 27 December 2025.

The advisory was released as a photo statement and shared on the Lagos State Government website and its official social media handles.

It is titled “Travel Advisory – Eyo Festival.”

According to the statement, the restrictions follow “the declaration by the Oba of Lagos, HRM Oba Akiolu Rilwan for the Eyo festival.”

It stated that “vehicular movement on major Lagos Island streets especially along the procession routes will be restricted or fully closed to allow the traditional Eyo procession to move safely.”

The government announced that “the following routes will be temporarily closed to traffic,” covering major access corridors linking Lagos Island with the mainland.

The statement added that “Motorists are advised to plan their journey as LASTMA officials will be deployed to all the diversion points for a seamless flow of traffic.”

It concluded with the note: “Any inconvenience this may cause is highly regretted,” and the sign-off, “LASTMA Cares.”

Under the Third Mainland Bridge axes, the statement listed: “Third Mainland Bridge exit to Adeniji Adele Road,” “Adeniji Adele ramps inward and outward,” and “Oyebanji Adeniji Adele inwards Third Mainland (Church bus stop).”

At Sura Junction, closures include: “Descending the Simpson Bridge to Sura from Osborne,” “Outward Sura inward Osborne by Simpson Bridge,” “Outward Sura inward Obalende bridge,” and “Third Mainland exit to Sura.”

The advisory also covered the Obalende axes, including: “Descending P&T from Obalende Bridge,” and “Descending Obalende bridge inward Kam Salem (To forestall One-Way Drive).”

For Onikan Junction, motorists were informed of restrictions at: “Inward Onikan roundabout from Awolowo Road by Military Hospital,” and “Under the bridge of Zone 2 inward Onikan roundabout.”

The CMS Bridge axes were also listed, including: “Descending CMS/Cathedral church,” “Outer Marina inward Odunlami,” and “UBA-Inner Marina,” covering “Descending UBA from the CMS bridge,” “Inward UBA from Leventis,” “Inward Apongbon underbridge TSL by UTC building,” “Inward Idita by BAT park,” and “All adjoining streets on Inner Marina Road.”

Under the Apongbon axes, the statement named: “Apongbon Bridge descending Leventis,” “Outward Apongbon by the foot of the bridge beside Wesley Cathedral,” “Exit of Ereko/Ebute Ero inward Apongbon bridge,” and “Exit of Olowogbowo inward Apongbon by Kuye B/stop.”

For Idumota axes, closures include: “Idumota inward Iddo after pedestrian bridge,” “Ascending Carter Bridge by Iddo,” “Inward Ejalonibu from 3rd Mainland end (odo alagbafo),” and “Exit of Police Post into Odo Alagbafo Bridge.”

The advisory outlined alternative routes “To Access Lagos Island,” advising motorists to use:

“Third Mainland Bridge → Dolphin Road Osborne Road → Alfred Rewane Road Falomo Bridge Akin Adesola or Lekki-Epe Expressway,” or “Eko Bridge Apongbon → CMS Bridge Bonny Camp ⇒ Ozumba Mbadiwe Road Law School → Lekki Epe Expressway.”

For motorists seeking “To Exit Lagos Island,” the alternatives listed were:

“Lekki-Epe Expressway Victoria Island Falomo Bridge → Alfred Rewane road Osborne road → Dolphin road → Third Mainland Bridge,” or “Lekki-Epe Expressway → Law School Ozumba Mbadiwe road → Bonny Camp CMS Bridge Apongbon → Eko Bridge.”

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu speaking last Sunday at the ‘Ijade Opa Eyo’ ceremony held at Marina, expressed delight that the festival is being held this year.

This is as he noted that the festival will showcase the rich culture of Lagos to the world.
