AFCON: Angola and Zimbabwe share points in Group B draw
Angola and Zimbabwe played out a 1–1 draw in their Group B encounter at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Friday in Marrakech, leaving both sides still in search of their first victory of the tournament in Morocco.
In a competitive contest that tested both defences, Angola struck first before Zimbabwe responded late in the first half to ensure the points were shared.

The breakthrough came in the 24th minute when Angola took the lead through a well-worked move.
Gelson Dala finished with composure, firing a right-footed shot into the bottom-left corner after a precise through ball from Tó Carneiro split the Zimbabwe defence. The goal rewarded Angola’s early pressure and attacking intent.
Zimbabwe gradually grew into the game and were rewarded deep into first-half stoppage time.
Knowledge Musona capitalised on a swift counter-attack, producing a calm right-footed finish from the right side of the box into the bottom-left corner, with Bill Antonio providing the assist.
Angola enjoyed the bulk of possession and territorial dominance after the break, creating several chances and keeping Zimbabwe under sustained pressure.
However, they were unable to find a decisive second goal. Zimbabwe, meanwhile, remained a threat on the counter and fashioned opportunities that could have resulted in a late winner.
The draw leaves both Angola and Zimbabwe without a win at AFCON 2025.
Both teams will conclude their group-stage campaigns on Monday, with Zimbabwe facing South Africa in Marrakech, while Angola take on Egypt in Agadir.
The result means either Egypt or South Africa will secure a place in the knockout stage should they win their Group B showdown in Agadir later on Friday in their second match of the group phase.
