Man jailed for stabbing, pouring hot oil on wife
A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has handed a 30-year-old man, Kazeem Solola, three years imprisonment for stabbing and pouring hot oil on his wife.
Solola was convicted on a two-count charge of assault and causing grievous bodily harm.
The prosecutor, Lawrence Olu-Balogun, had told the court that the offence was committed on Janaury 18, 2025, at Ring Owode Egba, in Abeokuta.
Olu-Balogun said the defendant unlawfully assaulted his wife, Mutiat Solola, by pouring hot palm oil on her neck and body.
He said the convict also stabbed her on the neck and head, which caused her grievous bodily harm.
He added that the act resulted to permanent injury on the victim.
According to the prosecutor, the couple had a misunderstanding while the victim was cooking, during which the defendant angrily poured hot oil on her and assaulted her.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 355 and 335 of the Criminal Code, Vol. I, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
Delivering her judgement, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. K. Araba, held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and found the defendant guilty as charged.
Araba sentenced Solola to two years imprisonment on count one and three years imprisonment on count two, with no option of fine.
She ordered that the sentences should run concurrently and take effect from the date the defendant was first arraigned before the court.
