C/River ADC warns ex-gov Imoke, ex-Minister Usani against convening party meeting
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Cross River State has cautioned its members to disregard a meeting allegedly convened by former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, scheduled to hold at the private residence of former Governor Liyel Imoke on Sunday.
In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, James Otudor, the party said Usani lacks the authority to summon any ADC meeting, noting that he is currently serving a three-month suspension as the National Vice Chairman (South-South).
Otudor added that both Usani and the former governor have failed to formally resign from their previous political parties despite clear directives from the ADC leadership. According to him, this raises further concerns about the legitimacy of their involvement in any party activity.
The statement emphasised that no official ADC meeting can be held in private residences, including that of Senator Imoke, stressing that such gatherings are illegal and will not be recognised by the party.
“Meetings held in private homes under the name of ADC are invalid. Anyone wishing to join or participate in ADC activities must go through the official registration process,” Otudor said.
Describing Usani’s actions as anti-party, the ADC warned against attempts to undermine the party through “backdoor manoeuvres,” noting that only duly registered executives have the authority to discuss matters such as delegate lists or internal processes.
The party advised its members to ignore all unauthorised meetings.
While former Governor Imoke did not respond to inquiries about the planned meeting, Usani, in an earlier interview, dismissed the suspension, insisting he remains the ADC’s National Vice Chairman (South-South). “I am speaking as the National Vice Chairman of our party in the South-South. Such suspension does not exist,” he said.
