Three Immigration officers killed after border attack in Kebbi
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has intensified security operations along the country’s northwest border following a deadly overnight attack that left three of its officers dead in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, when armed assailants launched a coordinated assault on the NIS checkpoint under the Tuga Border Patrol Formation in Bakin Ruwa.
The attackers reportedly destroyed several operational assets and facilities during the raid, which authorities described as violent and highly organised.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Akinsola Akinlabi, Service Public Relations Officer, said the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, was “deeply pained” by the killing of the personnel, whom she described as gallant officers who died while protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
The statement noted that the NIS stands firmly with the families and colleagues of the deceased officers, assuring them of the Service’s full support as they deal with the tragedy. He added that the sacrifice of the fallen personnel “will never be forgotten.”
In response to the attack, the Comptroller General ordered an immediate tactical reinforcement to the area.
“The measures include the deployment of additional personnel to the Tuga axis, intensified joint security operations with sister agencies, and strengthened intelligence-gathering across the border corridor.
“Patrols within the region have also been heightened to deter further incursions and reassert security control”, the statement read.
It stressed that despite emerging threats, the NIS remains resolute in its mandate to secure Nigeria’s borders, adding that criminal attacks will not deter the Service from carrying out its statutory duties.
The Service urged residents in affected communities to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies working to protect lives and property.
