BREAKING: Thugs Allegedly Loyal To House Of Reps Member Ukodhiko Disrupt APC Ward Congress In Delta
Sources told SaharaReporters that party members had gathered around 7 a.m. at Azagba Primary School in Otor-Owhe, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, the designated venue for the ward congress, when suspected thugs stormed the location and disrupted proceedings.
Political thugs allegedly loyal to Jonathan Ukodhiko, the member representing Isoko Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, reportedly disrupted the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in Otor-Owhe/Akiewhe Ward 6 on Wednesday, SaharaReporters has learned.
Sources told SaharaReporters that party members had gathered around 7 a.m. at Azagba Primary School in Otor-Owhe, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, the designated venue for the ward congress, when suspected thugs stormed the location and disrupted proceedings.
Party members, reportedly angered by what they described as undue interference contrary to party guidelines, insisted that a credible election be conducted to reflect the genuine will of the ward.
SaharaReporters gathered that tensions escalated when the suspected thugs, allegedly acting on behalf of the federal lawmaker and reportedly aided by armed military personnel, attempted to escort the party’s returning officer, Isaiah Ogunye, to prematurely announce a ward chairman, contrary to the wishes of party members.
Following resistance from the members, the thugs disrupted the exercise entirely.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, an APC member who identified himself only as Kome, accused Ukodhiko of attempting to use force to impose ward executives on the people, a move they said they vehemently resisted.
"Ukodhiko cannot impose ward executive on us. Because of our resistance, he decided to use political thugs who are loyal to him to disrupt the congress,” Kome said.
“Ukodhiko is afraid because, one of our own, Blessing Obomovo is also interested in the house of representatives come 2027. Ukodhiko is afraid that Obomovo could unseat him. As a result, he's using all means to cause unnecessary fight in the system. This was how he was imposing LGA chairman on the people. He wants to capture all wards to enable his second term.”
Kome described Ukodhiko as “too desperate,” saying, “Party leaders and members in the ward have vowed to resist his attempt to interfere and hijack the executive structure of the APC in Otor-Owhe/Akiewhe Ward 06.
“How can only Ukodhiko use his stooges to write a consensus executive list without a single input from other leaders of the party?
“Party members gathered in large numbers at Azagba Primary School, Otor-Owhe, the designated venue for the ward congress, to protest what they described as efforts to subvert the consensus arrangements earlier reached by stakeholders in line with party directives.”
Kome said party members arrived as early as 7 a.m., ready to participate in a transparent election for ward executive positions.
However, he alleged that Ukodhiko, through alleged stooges including Richard Isagba, attempted to change the consensus list previously agreed upon by ward leaders and submitted to the APC Local Government Area Chairman, Ebemuno, which had already been acknowledged at the LGA leadership meeting.
Speaking to SaharaReporters, Chairman of APC Otor-Owhe/Akiewhe Ward 6, Magistrate Oletu, confirmed the violence, saying there was no congress in the ward following the disruption by political thugs.
When contacted, Richard Isagba, identified as one of Ukodhiko’s stooges allegedly involved in the disruption, denied the allegations.
Efforts to reach Ukodhiko were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to his mobile phone went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
