Pregnant woman, 18-month-old son found burnt in Kano home

Residents of Sheka Sabuwar Gandu in the Kano metropolis have been thrown into shock after unknown assailants reportedly broke into a home and killed a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son.

The incident reportedly came to light at about 8 pm on Saturday when the woman’s husband returned from work and found his house locked from the outside.

It was gathered that upon forcing the door open, he discovered the lifeless bodies of his wife and child, both burnt after being attacked.

Confirming the incident to our correspondent, a community leader, Ahmad Sani, lamented the absence of security presence in the area, despite residents having constructed a police outpost through communal efforts.

“For a long time, the community built a police outpost, but the authorities have yet to deploy personnel to man the facility,” Sani said.

He appealed to the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Bakori, to urgently deploy officers to the outpost to enhance security and prevent further attacks.

When contacted on Sunday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, via a WhatsApp message, said the command was investigating the matter.

“Yes, it’s true the incident happened, but we are investigating the issue,” Haruna told our correspondent.

This is not the first reported case of a pregnant woman being brutally killed in Kano State.

Earlier this year, Trust TV reported the murder of a five-month pregnant young woman, Rumasau Shuaibu, at her home in the Farawa area of the state.

Shuaibu was allegedly stabbed to death with a kitchen knife on a Sunday evening, while the police said investigations were ongoing to arrest those responsible.
