
26 bag 1st class as Borno Varsity graduates 2,294 students
No fewer than 26 students have graduated with first class in the combined convocation of Sir Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri, Borno State.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Babagana Gutti, who stated this at a press conference, said a total of 2,294 graduates bagged various classes of degrees from the institution.
He noted that the maiden convocation ceremony scheduled to hold on January 3, 2026, will cover three (3) sets of graduands from 2022/2023, 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions, respectively.
The first set, according to the VC, the institution graduated 523 students, out of which, five graduated with first class.
“In the second set, 2023/2024 academic session, the University graduated 489 students, among which, 10 graduated with first class across four faculties.
“Third set, 2024/2025 Academic Session, the university is graduating 1,282 students out of which, 13 students graduated with first class across the four faculties,” he said.
He said the convocation will not only marked the 9 years of academic excellence, but celebrate the impactful and transformative service that touches on the lives of future leaders, the immediate community and the nation as a whole.
Gutti said a pre-convocation lecture would be delivered by Professor Michael O. Faborode, former Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Friday, 2nd January, 2026.
The lecture is titled, “Insecurity and Environmental Fragility in the Lake Chad Basin Areas: Education, Health and Sustainable Agriculture Tripartite to the Rescue”.
Gutti said the ceremony would also feature the conferment of degrees, presentation of prizes, and will be preceded by the investiture of the new Chancellor of the University.
“I wish to announce to you that the Visitor, His Excellency, Professor (Engr.) Babagana Umara Zulum, the Executive Governor of Borno State, has approved the appointment of a new Chancellor to our institution.
“He is His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), CFR, the Ooni of Ife. In line with academic tradition, the conferment of degrees and presentation of prizes will be preceded by the investiture of the new Chancellor,” he added.
