
JUST IN: Troops ‘rescue’ abducted Kano community residents
Troops of the Operation MESA comprising personnel of 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, in conjunction with the Nigerian Air Force and Nigerian Police, have reportedly rescued three out of the five persons earlier abducted at Lakwaya village of Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.
Daily Trust had reported how unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits launched a fresh attack on Lakwaya town and abducted five residents.
Speaking to Daily Trust, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, an Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army said, “three persons have so far been rescued.”
The incident, according to local sources, occurred on Sunday night at Zurin Mahauta village, throwing the community into fear and tension.
The village head of Zurin Mahauta, Murtala Mai Unguwa, had said the attackers stormed the area under the cover of darkness and whisked away the victims to an unknown destination.
He said security operatives were immediately alerted and theyresponded promptly, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down the abductors and rescue the victims.
Residents of the affected community have expressed concern over the recurring attacks in the area and called for sustained security presence to protect lives and property.
Captain Zubairu had earlier assured that the troops were doing their best to return the victims safely.
