NEMA distributes relief materials to Enugu flood victims

The National Emergency Management Agency has distributed relief materials to households affected by flooding in various communities of Ezeagu/Udi Federal Constituency, Enugu State.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Wednesday, NEMA said the distribution was part of its ongoing commitment to provide timely and effective disaster response across the country.

The exercise took place on Tuesday, 23rd December, 2025, and targeted families displaced or impacted by recent flood disasters.

Speaking during the exercise, the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, through the Head of Operations, Mrs Ngozi Echeazu, represented by Mrs Shantel Chukwu, sympathised with the affected residents.

“We sympathise with those affected by the floods and encourage everyone to make judicious use of the relief materials,” she said, adding, “It is also vital that communities adopt proactive measures to mitigate future disasters.”

Representing the Member of the House of Representatives for the constituency, Sunday Cryacius Umeha, his Chief of Staff, Prince Obinna Ozoejike, expressed appreciation: “We are grateful to the Federal Government and NEMA for their timely intervention and support to our communities.”

Beneficiaries also spoke during the distribution, with one resident saying, “We are thankful for the assistance; it came at the right time and will help our families recover.”

The exercise saw direct distribution of relief materials to affected households, highlighting the Federal Government’s commitment to humanitarian support in disaster-hit areas.

PUNCH Online had earlier reported that the Director-General of NEMA, represented by the Assistant Chief Search and Rescue Officer of NEMA Ado Ekiti Office, Mr Abogunrin Adesina, also called on local governments to intensify sensitisation efforts to reduce the incidence of disasters and mitigate their impact.

According to a statement released by the agency in Ado Ekiti, the NEMA DG spoke at Oyin Akoko during the flag-off and distribution of relief materials to flood-affected persons in Akoko North-East and Akoko North-West Local Government Areas of Ondo State. The exercise was part of the Federal Government Special Intervention for the 2025 flood.

The materials distributed included 300 bags of 25kg rice, 300 bags of 25kg maize, and 150 cartons of spaghetti.
