Osun gov’ship: Adeleke clinches Accord Party’s ticket
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has secured the governorship ticket of the Accord Party for the 2026 governorship election. Adeleke emerged the party’s flag bearer after scoring 145 of 150 valid votes cast at the primary election held in Osogbo on Wednesday. The exercise, which was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), recorded five invalid ballots. The governor recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following prolonged internal crises at the national level, paving the way for his entry into the Accord Party. In his acceptance speech after receiving his certificate of return, Adeleke thanked party leaders and delegates drawn from the 332 wards across the state, urging them to brace for the political contest ahead, describing his candidacy as a mandate for sustained development. “We are today launching the battle for continuity of progress, good governance and democratic dividends. My candidacy signals the sustenance of a golden movement, one where the light of development continues to shine across our state. We vow never to relent in delivering rewarding service to our people,” he said. Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has met with leaders and governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, urging them to unite behind a consensus candidate ahead of the party’s primary scheduled for December 13. The meeting, held Monday night at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was attended by aspirants, including former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), Babatunde Oralusi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. Also present were APC National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda; SGF George Akume; Chairman of Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma; and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola. Tinubu commended the aspirants for their commitment to the party but warned against internal divisions that cost the APC the last governorship election in the state. He stressed party supremacy and urged them to support whoever emerged through the consensus arrangement. A joint statement issued after the meeting showed unanimous agreement by the aspirants to abide by the party’s decision and support the eventual consensus candidate to ensure the party’s victory at the poll.
