Woman in court for allegedly stealing late sister’s property
The police on Wednesday arraigned a 46-year-old woman, Maria Ajimosun, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly stealing.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is accused of stealing a vehicle and N5.5 million belonging to her late sister and her brother-in-law.
She faces a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
Ajimosun, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, PC Olapeju Durodola, told the court that the defendant conspired with others, who are currently at large, to commit the offence sometime in March, 2025.
Durodola alleged that following the death of the defendant’s sister, one Esther Adesiyan, the defendant stole the deceased’s ATM card and withdrew N5.5 million from her GTBank account, converting the funds to her personal use.
The prosecution further alleged that the defendant stole a Lexus RX350 SUV valued at N16 million, along with GTBank and First Bank ATM cards, from her late sister’s residence. The property reportedly belongs to the deceased’s husband, Mr. Michael Adesiyan.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N25 million with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until March 23, 2026, for hearing. (NAN)
