We’re ready, prepared, capable of partnering with government for development – Nicholas 

Nicholas Oshojah Afeso, Executive Director of the Leadtots Development Initiative, has stated that Bauchi State youths are ever ready, well-prepared, and capable of partnering with government at all levels to move both the state and the federal government to the highest level.

The Director said this during the 2025 Youth Consultative Forum Meeting with the theme: Youth Driving Change Through Civil Engagement, held at the American Spaces of the Bauchi State library.

Afeso said that the theme speaks directly to the reality that young people are not only leaders of tomorrow but also leaders of today.

He further said that Bauchi State young people are increasingly becoming catalysts for accountability, innovation and community development through the Youth Civic Engagement Program (YCEP) and Youth Policy Dialogue (YPD) engagement.

According to him said that “We have witnessed how knowledge, civil skills and leadership exposure empower young people to demand better governance, promote inclusion and contribute immensely to the policy processes that affect every aspect of lives from education to security, health, agriculture and economic participation.

“Civic education in Bauchi State must go beyond attending meetings or voting during elections, but must reflect active citizenship, youth leading community initiatives, engaging ministries constructively, participation in the budget process, pushing for gender sensitive policies, supporting peace building and demanding accountability from leaders across all sectors.

“Bauchi’s development will not be complete without the voices, energy and leadership of its young people. The leadership we seek begins here, through dialogue, collaboration and sustained civic engagement”
