The Jigawa State Government has set aside N2bn for disaster response and the provision of relief materials across the state in the 2026 fiscal year.
The Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency, Hannafi Yakubu, disclosed this on Thursday in Dutse, the state capital, shortly after defending the agency’s budget before the House of Assembly Committee on Special Duties.
Yakubu said the allocation, approved by the state government.
“Today, we were before the assembly to defend our 2026 budget, and our budget is pegged at N2 billion for the whole year.
“We are the coordinating agency, and we collaborate with other agencies in the event of any disaster or emergency – be it flood, fire outbreak, tanker explosion or any other disaster,” Yakubu said.
He added that the agency would review the recommendations made by the committee to enhance its operations and improve response time.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that about 25 ministries, departments and agencies are expected to defend their budgets before committees of the Jigawa State House of Assembly between December 3 and 12.
