Man charged over racial abuse of Bournemouth’s Semenyo

A man from Liverpool has been charged with racially abusing Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo during a Premier League match at Anfield on 15 August.

BBC Sports on Tuesday said the incident occurred in the 29th minute after the Ghanaian international reported racist abuse to the match officials, prompting a temporary suspension of the game. Players from both teams, managers, referees, and police gathered on the touchline as the situation was addressed.

Merseyside Police confirmed that Mark Mogan, 47, of Templehill Close, Dovecot, has been charged with a racially aggravated Section 5 public order offence. He has been granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on 22 December.

Police said the suspect was identified and removed from the stadium shortly after the incident.

The match later resumed, with Liverpool going on to win 4–2 in their Premier League opener.
