A Kano Shari’a court sitting at Kofar Kudu in the municipal area has sentenced one Ali Ahmad Gwale to six months imprisonment without an option of fine for stealing a laptop computer, a power bank, and other valuables.
A breakdown of the sentence shows that he got three months imprisonment and 30 strokes of the cane for the first count, and an additional three months imprisonment and another 30 strokes of the cane for the second count.
Prosecution counsel, Barrister Aliya Aminu Yargaya, told the court that the convict unlawfully entered the premises of the Kano Veterinary Hospital, forcefully broke into one of the doctors’ offices.
In the process, he stole a laptop, a power bank and other items worth thousands of naira.
He was later apprehended by officers of the Gwale Police Division, who recovered the stolen items in his possession.
Gwale pleaded guilty to the charges read to him in the court.
Presiding Judge, Khadi Shamsuddeen Ado Abdullahi Unguwar Gini, noted that this was not the convict’s first appearance before the court.
He recalled that Gwale had previously been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for a similar offence.
