10 victims of Plateau attack buried amid tears
Ten residents of Dorowa Babuje, Barikin local government area of Plateau state, who were killed at a relaxation spot on Sunday night, have been buried.
Our correspondent reports that gunmen stormed the spot and opened fire on the victims.
The attack forced the community to block the Jos-Shendam road, a major highway, demanding the arrest of the perpetrators and stoppage of what they described as the dastardly act.
Our correspondent reports that the burial ceremony attracted a large gathering of grieving family members, community leaders, religious figures, and concerned residents who came to pay their last respects to the deceased.
Solemn prayers were offered for the repose of the victims’ souls.
Community representatives strongly condemned the killings, describing them as tragic and unacceptable losses of innocent lives.
Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, described the act as devastating and urged security operatives to intensify efforts in tracking down the perpetrators.
Tengwong called on security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the heinous act were apprehended and brought to book without delay, while also advocating for stronger preventive measures to safeguard communities from future attacks.
Plateau state government on Tuesday issued a statement through the commissioner of Information and communication, Mrs Joyce Ramnap, assuring that government would ensure the arrest of the perpetrators.
Ramnap said, “Governor Mutfwang expressed deep condolences to bereaved families and prayed for the recovery of the wounded. Gov Mutfwang reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, promising additional proactive steps to prevent further breaches and sustain relative peace across the state.”
