2027: APC, PDP strike alliance over Benue leadership
The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State have entered into a strategic collaboration aimed at producing what they described as credible and effective leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Mike Aondakaa (SAN), disclosed this on Sunday in Makurdi while speaking to journalists at the residence of former Governor Samuel Ortom, who was hosting his former appointees on a solidarity visit.
Aondakaa, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the APC, said the arrangement was not a merger but a partnership driven by the shared goal of good governance, regardless of party affiliation.
According to him, the collaboration involves the APC in Benue, led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and the PDP, with a focus on ensuring quality leadership in the state and across the North Central zone.
“We are collaborating with the PDP under the leadership of the APC. Our leaders have formed an alliance at both the national level and here in Benue. We are moving in one direction, and that direction is good leadership for the state,” he said.
Aondakaa explained that strategic alliances among political parties were common globally and did not necessarily translate into mergers, noting that such arrangements often reflect shared interests at specific levels of governance.
He said the partnership was intended to ensure that whoever emerges as leader in Benue in 2027 possesses the competence and credibility required to govern effectively, irrespective of party platform.
On whether the alliance would produce a consensus governorship candidate, Aondakaa said the decision would be taken by party leaders at both the state and national levels.
He urged party members and supporters to return to their communities to explain the rationale behind the collaboration, warning that resistance to strategic cooperation could expose the state to future political challenges.
The development signals a possible realignment of political forces in Benue as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace, amid ongoing internal disputes within both the APC and PDP in the stat
