Gov Lawal Equipped CPG, I Have No Excuse to Fail —New Commandant
The newly appointed Commandant of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG), AIG Muhammad Dalijan Shehu (rtd), has said the provision of modern equipment by Governor Dauda Lawal has left him with no excuse but to deliver on the mandate of tackling banditry and other crimes in the state.
Dalijan stated this while receiving his appointment letter as the new head of the state-owned security outfit, according to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Suleman Ahmad Tudu.
He said Governor Lawal had provided all the necessary logistics, including armoured carrier vehicles and other state-of-the-art equipment, to enable the CPG operate effectively in addressing insecurity across the state.
The new commandant, who was one of the pioneer trainers of the guards during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, said he was familiar with the strengths and limitations of the outfit, adding that he was committed to repositioning it for better performance.
“With the equipment provided by the state government, I have no excuse not to perform and meet the expectations placed on me,” he said.
Dalijan also pledged to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and work closely with conventional security agencies to take the fight to bandits’ enclaves.
Presenting the appointment letter and policy guidelines for the overhaul of the CPG, the SSG, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, charged the new commandant to uphold professionalism, ensure discipline and strictly operate within approved rules of engagement and operational protocols.
He warned that the Lawal administration would not tolerate deviations from approved standards, stressing that adherence to standard operating procedures was fundamental to professionalism, accountability and lawful conduct.
“The immediate and overriding priority before you is the restoration of clear and effective command and control across all formations of the CPG,” Nakwada said.
“This requires the re-establishment of an unambiguous chain of command, strict enforcement of discipline, and proper alignment of authority and responsibility in accordance with approved structures,” he added.
According to him, a unified command architecture was essential to eliminating operational drift, internal contradictions and unauthorised actions, noting that the measures would reposition the CPG to work more effectively with sister security agencies and regain public confidence.
The SSG also commended the immediate past commandant, Brig.-Gen. M. L. Bature (rtd), for his service and dedication, assuring him of the government’s continued support.
He announced that Governor Lawal had approved the indefinite payment of monthly salary to the former commandant to support his health management.
