Tinubu hails Abba Yusuf at 63, commends Kano’s grassroots-focused reforms
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on his 63rd birthday, praising his leadership style and commitment to people-centred governance.
In a goodwill message issued on Sunday, the President described Governor Yusuf as a public servant of integrity, modesty and humility, noting that these attributes have reflected strongly in his administration since assuming office.
The message was signed by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, and dated January 4, 2026.
Governor Yusuf, who was elected in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), previously served as Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport between 2011 and 2015 under the administration of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso. President Tinubu said the governor’s experience in managing key portfolios has translated into visible progress in Kano State.
The President observed that Yusuf’s administration has sustained Kano’s reputation as a stronghold of progressive politics in Northern Nigeria, with policies that emphasise grassroots development and the welfare of the talakawa, in the tradition of the late Mallam Aminu Kano.
According to Tinubu, the governor has initiated wide-ranging infrastructural projects, including urban renewal programmes, the construction of bridges and road networks, as well as the five-kilometre road projects in each of the state’s local government areas.
