Be careful with fire during harmattan, Kano tells residents
Kindly share this story:
The Kano State Fire Service has advised residents to exercise caution in handling fire and take necessary measures to protect themselves and their property from fire incidents.
The Assistant Director of the Fire Service, Hassan Gaya, gave the advice during a sensitisation and public awareness programme held on Thursday at the Danbatta Local Government Area of the state.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, Saminu Abdullahi, on Friday.
Recall that the agency last week commenced a statewide sensitisation campaign against fire outbreaks to enlighten the public on safety tips during the harmattan season.
“As part of the ongoing campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of fire outbreaks during the harmattan season, the Kano State Fire Service, Danbatta Branch, conducted a sensitisation and public awareness program on Thursday, 11 December 2025, at the Danbatta District Head’s Palace.
“The exercise was carried out under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Hassan Abba Gaya, and forms part of the Service’s efforts to ensure the safety of residents in the area and the state at large,” the statement read.
The agency urged the public to contact its office in case of any emergency through the following numbers: 08107888878 or 07026026400.
The Director of the Fire Service had earlier directed the awareness department of the service (Fire Prevention Unit) to be committed to the implementation of the campaign to achieve maximum results.
Four people, including two children, died in three separate tragedies recorded across Kano State last Friday.
Recent fire incidents underscore the importance of the campaign.
Four members of a family were killed in an early morning fire that engulfed their residence at Kundila Layin Baba Impossible in Tarauni Local Government Area.
In addition, no fewer than 25 temporary shops and 19 stores were destroyed by fire at the popular Singer Market in Kano metropolis last month.
