Tinubu, ACF extol virtues of TY Danjuma at 88
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) have extolled the virtues of General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd) as he celebrates his 88th birthday.
The president, in a statement he personally signed on Tuesday, described Danjuma as a distinguished statesman, soldier, and gentleman who, in peacetime and war, served the country with undivided loyalty.
President Tinubu said General Danjuma’s story is tied to the Nigerian story, adding that he served Nigeria at a time when our young nation faced severe trials. “He stood firm when unity was fragile, and the path ahead was uncertain. His sense of duty helped steady the country, and his record of service remains a reference point for discipline and honour.
“Beyond his years in uniform, he has continued to shape the national conversation through wise counsel and personal example. Any time he speaks on national issues, he does so with unmistakable clarity and an unwavering belief in Nigeria. Many leaders, including me, have drawn strength from General Danjuma’s willingness to offer guidance whenever the moment required a steady voice.”
The president explained that General Danjuma’s commitment to humanity had also left a lasting mark.
The Arewa Consultative Forum, in a statement commemorating the 88th birthday of Danjuma, one of Nigeria’s most respected military and public service figures, called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and resilient in the face of mounting socioeconomic and political challenges confronting the nation.
In the statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. T. A. Muhammad-Baba, the ACF appealed for renewed national unity and commitment to collective progress, expressing optimism that with patience, tolerance, justice and equity, Nigeria would emerge stronger.
The ACF emphasised that despite the turbulent national and global landscape, resilience remained essential. It encouraged Nigerians from all walks of life to stay steadfast, noting that the country had weathered significant storms and was capable of overcoming present-day challenges.
On Danjuma’s life, the ACF said he embodied courage, discipline and patriotism, qualities it said were vital for navigating the nation’s current challenges.
The forum highlighted his illustrious career as former Chief of Army Staff and former Minister of Defence, as well as his leadership roles in business, philanthropy and community development.
The ACF used the occasion to draw lessons from Danjuma’s resilience and unwavering dedication to Nigeria, noting that his contributions to national unity, governance and humanitarian work continued to inspire hope among citizens.
