The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed the coordination of response and recovery efforts following a temporary loss of communication with one of its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) during a routine operation under Operation FASAN YAMMA.
The incident occurred on Friday within Sector 3 of the operation area, where the UAV was deployed on a scheduled mission in support of ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

According to statement, the UAV experienced a loss of link while carrying out its assigned task. He said that all attempts to restore communication with the platform were unsuccessful, prompting the immediate activation of established emergency procedures.
“These procedures included return-to-base actions and coordinated response measures involving sister Services and other relevant authorities,” the NAF said.
It confirmed that the UAV was successfully contained and that recovery and assessment activities are progressing in line with operational plans.
Technical teams, NAF added, have secured the platform and commenced preliminary evaluations in accordance with standard safety and operational protocols.
The Force stressed that the incident did not result in any casualties and has not disrupted military operations across any theatre.
“There was no loss of life, and operations across all theatre continue uninterrupted,” the statement added.
The Nigerian Air Force reassured the public of its professionalism and sustained operational focus, emphasizing that counter-insurgency operations remain ongoing and unaffected.
“The Service remains fully committed to the execution of its constitutional mandate and the protection of national security,” NAF noted.
